1 million packages of birth control recalled

This week, Pfizer recalled 1 million packages of their generic Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradoil birth control pills and Lo/Ovral-28 birth control pills. Patients using these recalled oral contraceptives are advised to begin a non-hormonal contraceptive immediately and to contact their doctor.
Pfizer issued the recall after noticing that some of the 28-pill packages of birth control did not contain the correct amount of 21 hormone pills and 7 inactive, sugar pills. According to the drug manufacturer, the recalled packages could have too many or too few of both types of pills.
“As a result of this packaging error, the daily regimen for these oral contraceptives may be incorrect and could leave women without adequate contraception, and at risk for unintended pregnancy,” reads a release from Pfizer.
