1 person killed in single-car crash at NW OKC pond

NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – One person died as a result of a single-car crash that took place at a Northwest Oklahoma City pond on Sunday, News9 reports.
The incident unfolded after 12:30 a.m., when a driver of a sedan drifted off Heritage Oaks Drive and crashed into a pond.The car became fully submerged, entrapping one person. The three other occupants were able to escape prior to the Oklahoma City Police’s arrival.
Once at the scene, police attempted a rescue themselves, but decided not to continue the attempt due to the freezing water temperatures and the depth of the water.
Police were uninjured after the attempted rescue and waited for the OKC Fire Department’s diving team to perform the rescue. They were able to free the entrapped person, who was then sent to a hospital, where they died.
All four occupants were over 18.
Police have not specified the physical conditions of the surviving individuals nor released the victim’s identity.
