$14M verdict levied against Korean automaker in airbag defect trial

A court verdict awarded by a U.S. jury stated that Hyundai Motor Co is to pay a Virginia man, who suffered traumatic brain damage after the side airbags in his Hyundai vehicle failed to deploy in an accident, $14 million.

After eight hours of deliberation in the Pulaski County state court, jurors awarded Zachary Duncan and his family the $14 million verdict on June 28. According to the lawsuit, the airbag in the Hyundai Tiburon 2008 did not deploy due to the wrong placement of sensors in the vehicle.

The automaker said they will file for an appeal in court.
