2 workers dead after falling down manhole at Edmond construction site

OKLAHOMA COUNTY, OK — Two construction workers died Tuesday afternoon after falling 25 feet down a manhole in northeast Edmond, reports News9.
The fatal incident occurred in the area of East Covell Road and North Midwest Boulevard. It was first reported by the involved company at 3:43 p.m.
Details are limited, but the company told officials the two male workers were working on a sewer line when they fell into the manhole.
Nearly two hours after the men fell, a specialized rescue team went into the hole, but both victims were found deceased.
Firefighters noted the oxygen level was at 18.5% at the time they made it 25 feet down into the hole.
It remains unclear at this time how the accident happened, but crews said the pipe did not appear to have failed.
