PAYNE COUNTY, OK — An 18-year-old Rogers County man was arrested after a high-speed crash Saturday, October 15, that killed two people in Stillwater, reports KFOR.
The fatal collision occurred on the westbound lanes of Wisconsin Highway 51 (6th Avenue) near Country Club Road, at about 4:15 a.m.
According to Stillwater Police, the teen was driving a white Ford Mustang eastbound in the westbound lanes at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour. At one point, the Mustang collided head-on with a red Chevy Impala in the outside westbound lane. The Mustang then continued eastbound as its debris hit an occupied parked vehicle in a nearby parking lot, along with multiple other vacant vehicles.
The passengers of both vehicles, an 18-year-old Austin, Texas resident, and a 40-year-old of Oklahoma City, both died in the impact of the crash.
Officials said the teen driver was airlifted to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was released the following day.
The driver of the Impala, a 60-year-old Edmond woman, was flown to OU Medical Center. As of Friday night, she remained hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
On Thursday, October 20, the teen driver was arrested by the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office. His $100,000 bond has since been posted.
The Stillwater Police Department continues to investigate.
