Passenger killed in single-vehicle crash on I-40 in Newalla

NEWALLA, OK – A 44-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries Wednesday in a single-vehicle accident along the interstate in Newalla, reports KOCO News 5.

The crash occurred shortly before 9:15 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-40 between the Kickapoo Turnpike and South Peebly Road. This is about 24 miles east of Oklahoma City.

Police say that the driver of an eastbound Ford Explorer Sport Trac lost control of their vehicle. The pickup truck landed in the water after leaving the interstate.

The passenger in the pickup, identified as Tarren Sorrel, died after transport to an area hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the wreck.

A full investigation is underway to determine if drugs or alcohol might have been a factor in the accident.
