OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A fiery accident at a busy intersection in south-central Oklahoma City killed two people early Sunday morning, reports KOCO News 5.
Emergency teams were called to the area of Southwest 44th Street and Rancho Drive shortly after 2:30 a.m. This is northeast of Will Rogers International Airport and near Highlander Community South.
Police say that a white Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into a flatbed wrecker after fleeing an earlier crash that occurred near 44th and Blackwelder. The collision caused a fuel leak, which ultimately triggered the wrecker to ignite.
The unrestrained driver of the Chevy was ejected and died after transport to an area hospital. A passenger from the Chevy also succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims.
The driver of the wrecker was not hurt in the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
