Victim found unrestrained in fatal crash on OK-70 near Durant

BRYAN CO., OK – A 24-year-old woman died Saturday evening in a single-vehicle crash along the highway in central Bryan County, reports KOCO News 5.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m., emergency crews reported to a major collision along the eastbound side of OK-70 between Durant and Bokchito. This is almost two hours southeast of Oklahoma City.
Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle, left the highway, and crashed down an embankment.
The driver of the vehicle was properly restrained at the time of the accident and sustained minor injuries. It’s unclear if he required hospitalization.
Authorities declared the unrestrained passenger in the vehicle, identified as Phyllis Eggenberg, deceased at the scene.
A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
