OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Two drivers were arrested for DUI following a fatal sledding-turned-crash incident that claimed a 31-year-old woman’s life on Sunday.
Oklahoma City Police told KOCO that the crash occurred around 11 p.m. in the area of North Walker Avenue and 81st Street. The woman was on board a make-shift sled that was connected via rope to another vehicle. The rope attached broke, and the woman was run over by another vehicle traveling behind her.
The woman, identified as Makayla Mitchell, died from her injuries at the scene.
Police arrested the driver with the attached sled and the driver traveling behind, saying they exhibited signs of impairment. Police said both drivers were arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated DUI.
The driver traveling behind Mitchell was also arrested for child endangerment, as they had a one-year-old child with them when they ran over Mitchell.
Formal charges have yet to be filed.
