NEAR PERRY, OK – According to new information from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old woman who was killed in a crash near Perry on Wednesday was not a driver, but a pedestrian.
OHP confirmed the news to Koco. Preliminary details show that the 62-year-old woman was walking in and out of traffic on Interstate 35 when she was struck by a travel bus carrying the Oklahoma State University softball team.
The bus driver told OHP they swerved out of their lane to avoid hitting the woman, but were unable to do so.
The woman, later identified as Susan Lee Darst, from Oklahoma City, died from her injuries.
The OSU softball team was on the way to a game against Wichita State University at the time of the collision. That game was postponed, and the OSU team was uninjured in the collision, university officials said.
OHP shut down the area for over two hours to accommodate the scene clean-up process before reopening all lanes.
