Dim street lights cited as cause of crash on I-44 in NW Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A local woman says insufficient street lighting led to a rear-end crash early last Friday on Interstate 44 near northwest Oklahoma City, reports FOX 25.

The accident happened on the westbound lanes approaching Exit 121B to Northwest 10th Street. It was reported on September 9 at about 5:30 a.m.

The woman told FOX 25 she was driving westbound toward the offramp when she was “blinded” as she entered a dark span of the interstate. Moments later, she struck the back of another vehicle.

In the aftermath of the crash, the woman said first responders appeared to have trouble finding the scene in the poorly-lit area.

She said she suffered a concussion, in addition to bruising and swelling, as a result of the wreck. It was unclear whether the other involved party was injured.

As of this writing, OG&E, the company that operates Oklahoma City’s street lights, has not released a statement.
