HOLLIS, OK – An elderly female driver is being charged in connection with a deadly hit-and-run collision that happened on Valentine’s Day, KSWO said.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the incident unfolded when the driver, later identified as 80-year-old Sara Romo Lopez, struck a female pedestrian with her vehicle on U.S. 62. West.
The pedestrian, 54-year-old Janara Rebecca Musgrave, was walking on the northbound lane when she was struck by Lopez.
Lopez then fled the scene prior to emergency crews’ arrival. After arriving, medical personnel transported Musgrave to OU Medical Center.
Musgrave was initially left in critical condition, but died from her injuries a day later on Sunday, Feb. 15.
OHP later tracked down Lopez. Lopez’s family member said the reason her car’s windshield, front fender, and headlight had damage was that she crashed into a bridge.
OHP’s team of investigators inspected all bridges from Hollis to the Texas border and found no damage on any of the bridges.
OHP also asked Lopez for her driver’s license, who only showed her driver’s license.
Lopez is facing a first-degree felony for manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death. She is also facing a misdemeanor for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
