MCINTOSH COUNTY, OK — A 72-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon after a single-vehicle rollover crash near north Checotah, according to 102.3 KRMG.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the fatal accident occurred on County Road East 1030, about a mile north of the city.
An early investigation indicates the woman was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee when, for reasons still unknown, it traveled off the roadway and swerved left to overcorrect. As the Jeep veered back onto the roadway, it skidded for 166 feet before running off the road again. After traveling for about 45 feet, the vehicle hit the ditch and flipped one and a half times. After rolling about 62 feet, it collided with a tree and came to a stop.
The victim died on the scene as a result of head trauma and external injuries, confirmed the OHP.
An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway.
