Eight people injured in collision in Coal County

COAL COUNTY, OK. – Eight people were injured in a collision in Coal County on Sunday morning. Four of the victims were listed in critical condition.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Fox News 12, the crash occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on State Highway 48, nine miles south of Tupelo. State troopers say that a car headed west on CR 1750 failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car headed north on SH 48. According to sources, two of the victims were thrown more than 20 feet from the vehicles in the crash.
Five of the victims were airlifted to a hospital in Oklahoma City, and two of those in critical condition were reportedly children, ages 5 and 2-years-old. One passenger in the northbound car and two in the westbound vehicle were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. Police are still investigating the accident, but early reports indicate that the presence of alcohol was detected on one of the drivers.
