PURCELL, OK – At least one person died, and a deputy sustained injuries early Sunday in a pair of collisions that happened along I-35 in Purcell.
According to KOCO News 5, the first crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on the northbound side of the interstate near OK-74. This is west of US-77 on the south side of the city.
Police haven’t yet shared any details regarding the initial accident except to say that it involved an 18-wheeler. Photos taken at the scene suggest that the wreck caused the semi to flip onto its side. It’s unclear if any other vehicles were involved, and authorities haven’t yet named the victim.
Not long after this first incident, a car rear-ended a deputy’s pickup truck near the scene of the semi crash. The deputy was hospitalized with non-critical injuries.
Officials closed the northbound side of I-35 in the area of the crash while emergency teams worked at the scene.
Both incidents remain under investigation.
