TULSA, OK – A man was transported to a hospital, and 1,800 homes and businesses were left without power as a result of a fiery collision that happened on Tuesday.
Tulsa police told KRMG that the crash occurred around 7 a.m. Officers said a man experienced a seizure while driving on East 31st Street West. As a result, he lost consciousness, drifted out of his lane, and crashed into a wooden fence and a utility pole.
The force of the collision caused the man’s car to catch on fire. Fortunately, firefighters rescued the man and were able to extinguish the flames.
Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) was also dispatched to the scene and restored power for all the businesses, including Ochoa Elementary School.
Officials shut down East 31st Street between South 136th East Avenue and South 137th East Avenue for at least two hours to accommodate the scene clearance and investigation.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area amid closures.
