TULSA, OK – Tulsa Police suspect impairment was a contributing factor behind a crash that injured a mother and her child, a toddler, on Thursday.
Police told KTUL that the incident occurred on South Lewis Avenue near East 13th Street. Here, the driver crashed his white sedan into a pole, leaving minor damage to the car and significant damage to the pole itself.
The mother and child, who were inside the white sedan, were transported to a hospital by the Emergency Medical Services Authority. The child, who was not in a car seat, suffered critical injuries, while their mother was left with unspecified injuries.
Police conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, who did not pass it. Police said he was under the influence, but did not specify whether his judgment was impaired by alcohol or drugs.
The driver was also left with unspecified injuries. Officials said EMSA also transported him from the scene, but did not confirm if he needed to go to the hospital.
Police did not say if the man had family ties to the mother and child, and did not say if he will be facing charges.
A full investigation is underway.
