Man Hospitalized After Pulling Teen from Car Wreck

A good Samaritan in southwest Oklahoma city is in the hospital after rescuing a drag racing teen who crashed his car into a taco van Sunday night.
According to officials with the Oklahoma City Police Department, the 16 year-old driver was drag racing shortly after 5:00 p.m. on South West 29 near South Shartel Avenue when the accident occurred. The teenager’s vehicle veered into a parking lot and smashed into a taco van. The van and the car both erupted in flames.
Police Lieutenant Chris Gayhart said a bystander helped pull the driver of the car out of the wreckage. The good Samaritan was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.
The teenage racer ran from the scene of the crash, but was later found, Gayhart said. He received tickets for not having a state driver’s license, leaving the scene of an accident, and illegally racing. The taco van and the car were both destroyed by fire.
Police say they have no information on the other driver of the motor vehicle accident, who was racing at the time of the crash.
