OHP trooper, mother & daughter killed in I-35 crash in OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper and a mother and her daughter were killed in a crash that happened on Interstate 35 on Wednesday, OKCFOX reports.

The incident unfolded when debris from a pickup truck went onto the road. A 36-year-old woman, driving a small SUV, swerved out of her lane to avoid hitting it. She went over a cable barrier and crashed into the OHP trooper, later identified as Vernon Brake.

Brake, and the 36-year-old woman, identified as Mercedes Bayne, and her 4-year-old daughter all died from their injuries.

OHP said they located the pickup truck driver, but have not confirmed whether they were directly involved in the fatal collision.

Authorities closed I-35 North between Britton and Hefner Roads to accommodate the on-scene clean-up process and investigation.
