Oklahoma nursing home surveillance law goes into effect

After a new bill signed by Governor Mary Fallin took effect on November 1, nursing home managers and administrators are reacting to the fact that nursing home residents can now be monitored by their families with the use of surveillance cameras.

Tina Williams-Easton is an administrator in one local nursing home who said that she has not noticed that anyone seems interested in installing cameras in their facilities and that the bill will not change the way they work. She also expressed that she felt as if the cameras might be a violation of the residents’ privacy.

In a nursing home study conducted recently by Families for Better Care, Oklahoma received an ‘F’ rating in nursing home care. Williams-Easton, who has many years experience in the long-term care industry, expressed disbelief of the findings.

Sadly, many people in nursing homes in America are mistreated and abused by nursing home staff members. When this happens to someone you love in Oklahoma, the legal team at the Abel Law Firm believes the perpetrator should be held civilly responsible.
