Parents file suit over teens’ injuries in grain elevator

The parents of two teenage boys who were seriously injured while working for Zaloudek Grain Co. in Kremlin, Oklahoma have filed lawsuits against the boys’ employer. The business’s shareholders and executives are also named as defendants in the suits. The families are seeking damages of more than $75,000.

In August, the two teens were injured while operating a grain auger for Zaloudek. One of the boys’ legs became stuck in the machine, and the other boy became stuck, too, when he tried to help his friend. Paramedics flew the teenagers to a hospital in Oklahoma City, where they both needed to have a leg amputated.

The lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligent training and supervision, failure to provide workers’ compensation insurance, and assigning the 17-year-olds to perform work that violated labor laws at both the state and federal law levels.
