An Osage County sheriff’s deputy was killed late Wednesday night when his squad car rolled over as he was responding to a burglary-in-progress call.

The Pawhuska, Oklahoma Sheriff’s Department identified the officer as 25 year-old Adam Mehagan of Skiatook. Police say Mehagan was responding to a call of a burglary-in-progress shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mehagan was traveling north on County Road 1475 when he apparently lost control of his vehicle. The squad car left the road and rolled twice.

Investigators say Mehagan was ejected from the vehicle and thrown seven feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash shortly after midnight. Mehagan suffered serious head and internal injuries.

Adam Mehagan leaves behind a wife and an 11-month-old daughter.
