Multinational chain store Walmart agreed to pay fine of $190,000 and to improve the safety conditions in its 2,800 stores after inspectors uncovered “repeat and serious” health and safety violations in one of its stores in New York, among other locations, a report from The Guardian stated on Wednesday, August 7.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited a Walmart store in Rochester for lack of training on hazardous materials, blocked exits, and a dangerous trash compactor, some of which were also found in other stores in nine states. Dr. David Michaels said the settlement will keep Walmart employees safe and healthy in their workplace.
Though Walmart was fined for the dangers faced by their workers, such dangers could also cause innocent visitors to be injured.
