The Walmart semi-truck driver who was involved in the recent fatal crash that injured comedian Tracy Morgan and killed comedian James McNair was discovered to be driving well above the speed limit, NBC News stated on June 19.
Reports said trailer truck operator Kevin Roper was driving with a speed of 65 mph on a road with a 45 mph limit when he rear-ended the limousine bus occupied by Morgan and his friends. The New Jersey Turnpike had a reduced speed because of ongoing construction work. The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating how much sleep Roper was driving on, but it does not appear that he violated the hours of service regulations. Roper, who was charged with injury and homicide by a vehicle, reportedly pleaded not guilty.
