An Oklahoma motor vehicle accident Friday claimed the life of an Arcadia woman.

According to officials with the Oklahoma State Police, 26 year-old Amanda Degand was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 west of Tucumcari Friday. Police say the accident occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m. Officers learned that 25 year-old Roney Meyers, of Oklahoma City, was traveling east on Interstate 40 near mile marker 311 in a 2008 Toyota Prius when he lost control of the vehicle. Meyers left the roadway and struck a guardrail on the north side of the Intersate. He then crossed back over I-40 and struck another guardrail. The Pruis rolled numerous times.

During the rollover, Amanda Degand was thrown from the vehicle. She later died as a result of her injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Meyers and another passenger, 37 year-old Charles Degrand, were transported to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Quay County for treatment. Information on the nature or extent of their injuries was not available.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.
