GARFIELD CO., OK – Two women died Monday morning in a wrong-way collision along the highway in southwest Garfield County, reports KOCO News 5.

Shortly after 7 a.m., emergency teams responded to the northbound side of US-81 near Sumner Road after reports of a major two-vehicle crash. This is between the cities of Waukomis and Bison.

Police say that the driver of a southbound Nissan lost control of the vehicle, entered the northbound side of the highway, and collided head-on with a northbound GMC Envoy.

The driver of the GMC, identified as 63-year-old Janet Hicks, died at the scene of the wreck.

Medics airlifted a passenger from the GMC to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The wrong-way driver, identified as 24-year-old Adrian Galaviz, also succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Authorities say that neither Hicks nor Galaviz were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

A full investigation is underway.
