OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — One person died early Friday after their motorcycle hit the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40 near downtown Oklahoma City, reports KOCO.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred on a span of the interstate near the exit to I-35 southbound.
A preliminary investigation indicates the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when they attempted to move from the far left lane and across multiple lanes to make the I-35 exit.
A witness said the motorcyclist then struck the rear of a tractor-trailer. Officials confirmed the rider later died.
At this time, investigators are not conducting a search for the driver of the tractor-trailer, which continued without stopping. Officials said it is likely the driver was not aware that a crash took place.
A section of the interstate was shut down during the emergency response and investigation. It has since reopened to traffic.
