CLEVELAND COUNTY, OK — A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized Sunday morning after a single-vehicle accident on York Road near Lexington, according to KFOR.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at the intersection with 84th Avenue Southeast. First responders were called to the scene shortly before 5:00 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 2011 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on York Road when the vehicle ran off the roadway and collided with a fence. The impact of the crash caused the car to roll multiple times before it came to rest and caught fire.
The victim, who was one of at least six teenage occupants in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to OU Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition.
Authorities indicated the other teenagers either declined treatment or have since been released from a hospital for less serious injuries.
Inattention due to likely sleepiness on the driver’s part was said to have been a factor in the wreck.
