YUKON, OK – A police deputy sustained injuries Friday when a vehicle hit him during a traffic stop along the interstate in west-central Canadian County.
According to KOCO News 5, the incident happened in the morning along I-40 near Garth Brooks Boulevard, which is just north of INTEGRIS Health Canadian Valley Hospital.
The investigation indicates that a vehicle struck both the police officer and his police unit while the deputy stood near the passenger side of a black Dodge Charger. The officer had stopped the Dodge for having improper tags.
Both the deputy and the driver of the Dodge went to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities believe that fatigue may have been a primary factor in the accident. The driver of the vehicle that struck the police officer did stop to render aid and speak with police.
The investigation is ongoing.
