PAYNE CO., OK – A multi-vehicle crash along OK-33 in southwest Payne County killed two people and injured another on Wednesday, reports KOCO News 5.
The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. near the intersection with Range Road, which is just west of the city of Perkins and about 60 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
Police say that an eastbound Nissan Juke entered the westbound side of OK-33 and collided with a westbound box truck and an SUV.
The wrong-way driver, identified as 19-year-old Kiowa Tate, died at the scene, as did the driver of the SUV. Authorities identified the second victim as Tuseef Cheema, 36.
Medics transported a passenger from the wrong-way vehicle to an area hospital with serious injuries.
A full investigation is underway to determine what may have caused Tate to veer into oncoming traffic.
