Elderly nun killed in solo crash on OK-3 near Okarche

CANDADIAN CO., OK – A nun from Okarche died Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash along the highway in north-central Canadian County, reports KOCO News 5. 

The incident occurred shortly after 3:15 p.m. just south of Okarche on OK-3. This is about 40 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

Police say that 74-year-old Veronica Higgins, who belonged to the Carmelite Sisters of St. Therese of the Infant Jesus, lost control of her car after having a medical episode.

Higgins’ vehicle struck a tree after leaving the highway, and she died at the scene.

There were no other passengers in the car at the time of the accident.

A full investigation is underway.
