ATOKA CO., OK – A 41-year-old man died Monday when a telescopic forklift struck him along a roadway in southwest Atoka County, reports News on 6.
The incident occurred shortly after 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of West Crusher Road and North 3738 Road, which is just southeast of Coleman and about two hours southeast of Oklahoma City.
Police say that a 2025 Gehl Telehandler ran over and pinned John B. Bird along Crusher Road after he parked and exited the forklift.
Bird succumbed to his injuries at the scene sometime during or following lengthy extrication efforts.
It’s unclear if Bird was working at the time of the accident, or if he was using the telehandler to perform tasks on his own land.
A full investigation is underway.
