CRAIG CO., OK – One driver sustained injuries, and the other faced charges Thursday following a major accident involving an 18-wheeler on the turnpike.
According to KZRG, the collision occurred sometime in the afternoon near exit 289 and the intersection with US-60. This is just southeast of Vinita and about 64 miles northeast of Tulsa.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a semi-truck on I-44. This initial collision caused the 18-wheeler to fall from the interstate onto US-60. The semi then ignited.
The truck driver sustained non-critical injuries; it’s unclear at this time if they required hospitalization.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as Nurbin Remigio Hernandez-Guzman fled the scene on foot. Police apprehended him soon after, charging Hernandez-Guzman for reckless driving, leaving the scene, and driving without insurance or a license.
The investigation is ongoing.
