PITTSBURG COUNTY, OK – A multi-vehicle collision in Pittsburg County left one person dead and two others injured, according to a KJRH report.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon on State Highway 9 about half a mile west of State Highway 9A at about 2:20 p.m.

A preliminary investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol determined that a driver heading eastbound went off the right side of the roadway.  When he overcorrected, his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a second vehicle going west.  Another westbound driver swerved to avoid the crash but struck the back of the first vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 37-year-old Whitney Joplin of McAlester, was killed in the wreck.  A passenger in her car and the driver of the first vehicle, 64-year-old Billy Norman, suffered undisclosed injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
