Army trainee’s life claimed in pedestrian-vehicle crash in Lawton

LAWTON, OK – A 27-year-old man, an army trainee, lost his life as a result of a pedestrian-vehicle crash in Lawton last Thursday, Sept. 10.

The incident occurred between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Interstate 44 West near the river bridge and Elmwood Avenue, according to News9.

The 27-year-old man was walking or standing when he was struck by a vehicle.

Subsequently, the man, later identified as Pfc. Ocean K. Winfrey, succumbed to his injuries.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division are partnering together to determine the events leading up to this fatal pedestrian-vehicle crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dash camera footage, or has any other information about this collision is asked to contact OHP’s Northeast Regional Communications Center at the phone number listed in the initial source.
