GLENPOOL, OK – A police officer from McAlester died Monday from injuries sustained Friday evening in a head-on crash along the highway, reports McAlester News-Capital.

The crash occurred around 6:27 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway 75 just north of 151st Street South, which is south of Black Gold Park.

The investigation indicates that Officer Joseph Barlow was serving as an escort in a funeral procession on Highway 75 when a northbound Ford F-250 truck  veered into the southbound lanes and struck Barlow’s vehicle head-on.

After multiple surgeries at a hospital in Tulsa, Barlow died on Monday.

Police are charging the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Martin Rodriguez, on several counts, including driving without a driver’s license and reckless driving.

The investigation continues.
