Wrong-way crash on US-83 in SW Beaver County near Balko kills 5

BEAVER CO., OK – A head-on collision along the highway in southwest Beaver County killed five people on Monday morning, reports News on 9.
The incident happened at 4:53 a.m. on US-83, just north of the border between Oklahoma and Texas. This is southwest of the town of Balko.
Police say that a southbound vehicle entered the northbound side of the US-83 and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle, killing a driver and three passengers at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as 53-year-old Clemente Velez, Esther Espino Puentes, Griselda Lomas De Velez, and Maria Ernesti Velez Mendoza.
The wrong-way driver, identified as 42-year-old Brett Edwards Philen, died after transport to a local hospital.
A full investigation is underway to determine what might have caused Philen to veer into oncoming traffic.
