Wrong-way DUI crash on Lake Hefner Pkwy near Britton kills 1, injures 1

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A 25-year-old woman died early Saturday in a wrong-way crash along Lake Hefner Parkway in north-central Oklahoma City, reports KOCO News 5.

The accident happened just after midnight between West Hefner Road and West Britton Road. This is north of Wayne Schooley Park and east of Lake Hefner.

Police say that an alleged drunk driver was headed southbound on the northbound side of Lake Hefner Parkway with a child passenger in the backseat when his vehicle collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, identified as Maria Ganchozo, was pregnant at the time of the accident. Ganchozo died after transport to an area hospital.

Medics transported the child from the wrong-way vehicle to the hospital with non-critical injuries.

It’s unclear if the driver that caused the accident sustained injuries in the crash. Additionally, police have not yet announced charges.

A full investigation is underway.
