ENID, OK – An 85-year-old man died Thursday morning when a stolen vehicle struck his car at a busy intersection in Enid, reports Enid News and Eagle.

The incident occurred just after 9:32 a.m. at East Purdue Avenue and North 4th Street, which is on the far north side of the city near the Dollar General.

Police say they attempted to stop a stolen 2019 Nissan Frontier carrying four unrestrained teens not long before the fatal accident. The 14-year-old driver sped away from authorities and failed to heed the stop sign on eastbound Purdue at 4th. The Nissan collided with a southbound 2018 Lincoln Continental, killing the driver of the Lincoln, identified as Francis L. Boyle.

Medics airlifted the driver of the Nissan and a 15-year-old boy to the hospital with unspecified injuries. A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy also went to the hospital with injuries sustained in the accident.

Officials closed roads in the area of the accident for multiple hours while crews investigated and worked to clear the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
