2 dead after vehicle hits tree along OK-270 in Pottawatomie County

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY, OK — Two Harrah residents died Monday night after a single-vehicle accident off Oklahoma Highway 270 near southeast McLoud, according to News 9 KWTV.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said the fatal wreck occurred near Highway Drive at about 10:56 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates an 81-year-old man and a 76-year-old woman were heading northbound on Highway Drive when they ran a stop sign at the intersection. Their vehicle continued forward until it collided with a tree.
The two victims suffered critical injuries and were rushed to an area hospital where they both died.
At this time, the cause of the accident remains unclear. An investigation was underway.
